Year 8 Sport Education

On Friday the 2nd of August 2019, nine students from the Year 8 Sport Education class had an amazing opportunity to umpire at Marvel Stadium during the North Melbourne and Hawthorn football game

This was an extra special game for North Melbourne as the club celebrated its 150th anniversary and Rhyce Shaw's first match as its permanent senior coach.

Students have been learning the umpire rules of AFL and have gained their Umpires Certificate throughout Term 2.

It was a very daunting job for our students to undertake umpiring the Auskick games at half time in front of 33,226 spectators! Students took it in their stride and once on the main grounds, they took control of five smaller games on the field. I was super proud of our girls who displayed levels of leadership beyond their years. Congratulations to all students who represented Sirius College admirably.

Well done to Nisa Oztas, Sumaya Samatar, Aya Haidar, Zehra Ahmad, Arya Faraz, Nahide Turkmen, Lara Ayanlar, Meltem Nevres and Serra Gumus.
